Saved months

Up to 120 month/currency records. Different currencies remain separate. Loading a month replaces only the unsaved form; saving it updates that month.

How the estimate works

Monthly surplus = take-home income − all spending. Emergency target = selected spending × coverage months. Gap = max(0, target − liquid emergency cash). The projection uses the smaller of your planned contribution and positive monthly surplus. Months needed = gap divided by that amount, rounded up. No interest, inflation or changes in spending are assumed. With no emergency budget, coverage and completion time are not meaningful.

Example: a gap of RM 10,000

Suppose take-home income is RM5,000, essential spending is RM3,000 and optional spending is RM500. The surplus is RM1,500. A six-month essential budget targets RM18,000. With RM8,000 already available and RM1,000 saved each month, the RM10,000 gap takes 10 months under unchanged assumptions. A transfer to savings is not an expense here; it allocates part of the surplus.

Avoid double counting

Use take-home pay after payroll deductions. Enter rent or mortgage under housing once. If card purchases are already in spending categories, do not enter the same full credit-card bill again as debt; include only repayments of earlier debt not already counted. Do not include stocks, EPF or money committed elsewhere as immediately available emergency cash. Update your cash balance manually each month; this tool does not reconcile bank accounts.

Questions worth working through

Use the result with confidence

A monthly review, not just a budget

Record take-home income and actual spending for the same month. A planned saving is not automatically money available: compare it with the calculated surplus. For income that varies, review several saved months rather than treating one unusually good month as normal.

Check the emergency-fund gap

With essential spending of 3,000 per month and six months of cover, the target is 18,000. If accessible emergency savings are 8,000, the gap is 10,000. A feasible 1,000 monthly contribution closes that gap in 10 months, assuming no withdrawals or spending changes.

Keep a usable backup

Saved months live in this browser, separately from DividenNote. Export a backup before clearing site data or changing devices. Do not count an illiquid asset as emergency cash merely because it has a market value; choose the expenses and accessible balance that fit your actual situation.
