Using the scientific calculator

Enter an expression using the keypad — combine numbers, operators, brackets and functions like sin, cos, tan, log, ln and √. Switch DEG/RAD to control how the trigonometric functions interpret angles, then press = to evaluate.

FAQ

Does it use degrees or radians?

Both — use the DEG/RAD button to switch. Trigonometric functions follow the selected mode.

For general calculation use.

Use the result with confidence

Build an expression with explicit operators

Use parentheses to control order and include × between adjacent quantities: write 2×(3+4), not 2(3+4). The calculator evaluates the whole expression when you press equals. Clear removes the expression; backspace removes the last character.

Check angle mode before trigonometry

In DEG mode, sin(30) = 0.5. In RAD mode the input is radians, so the equivalent angle is π/6. The log key is base 10, while ln is the natural logarithm. For example, log(100) = 2 and √(81) = 9.

Percent and numerical limits

The percent sign divides that quantity by 100. It does not use the special “add a percentage of the previous total” behaviour of some pocket calculators: use 200×1.10 for a 10% increase. Results are rounded to about ten decimal places. Division by zero, invalid syntax and real square roots of negative numbers report an error.
